Sicily

My Sicily

My mom is from Castellammare del Golfo. My dad is from Porto Empedocle, in the province of Agrigento. West coast, two and a half hours apart, but the same deep roots — the same way of sitting at a table, the same instinct to feed people, the same love of the sea.

I still go back to my grandparents' house — the one they built in 1973 before they came to America. When I'm there, everything else just goes away. Good food, good wine, good company. That's the beauty. That's the whole thing.

Four old people on a beach with a bottle of wine and a deck of cards. That's when I knew what really matters.

The Legend of the Testa di Moro

A Sicilian woman, a Moorish man, a betrayal, and the most iconic planter in Mediterranean history.

Sicily Tours

Walk Where I Grew Up

Small groups. The markets of Palermo, the ceramics workshops of Burgio, the fishing villages of the west coast. You eat where the locals eat. You meet the artisans behind the pieces. Not a tourist tour — a family experience.
