Rose Quartz may have been one of Pantone’s 2016 colors of the year but it certainly has not lost it’s momentum and popularity as we continue into 2017.  This month’s color is light pink in appearance and displays neutral undertones, therefor lending itself beautifully to a large range of skin tones.  It is also quintessential in achieving  the ‘no makeup, makeup look.’  In this month's edition I set out to demonstrate how you can achieve highlighted, glowing skin incorporating  rose quartz.

As a makeup artist I like to push the boundaries of my products.  What I mean by that is, I never just want to strictly use a product for it’s initial intention.  There are two products I used repeatedly all over Samantha’s face to obtain this illuminated effect.  NYX’s Bright Idea Illuminating stick in Pearl Pink Lace was used not only to highlight Samantha’s cheek bones, cupid’s bow, and chin, but also used it as a cream base on her eyes and ran it across her lips.  Once I was finished with highlighting, I buffed in a light-weight foundation to even out skin tone, and then went back in again with the highlighter to really build her glow.  It was at this point that I brought in Hourglass’s Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure.  This is a baked (not pressed) blush that gives a soft radiance to the skin without an overload of shimmer.  In simpler terms I am in love with this product!  Not only did I use it to bring pinkness to the cheeks, I swept it across her eyelids, setting the cream highlighter in place and adding a bit of dimension to the lid.  In the end creating a carefree, glowing look.
