Marsala may have been the Pantone 2015 color of the year, but its still going strong through 2017! Marsala is a subtly seductive shade that creates drama and exudes confidence, stability and elegance. It is flattering against most skin tones, making it a great “go-to” color for beauty by providing enormous highlight for the cheek, and a captivating pop of color for nails, shadows lips and hair.

We typically think of this warm burgundy red as a more of a fall color, but truth be told you can wear it all year long if you pair it with the right colors. During the fall months we see it paired more with earthy neutrals like beiges and browns and during the holiday season with black and grey. But to take this color through the spring and summer try pairing it a brighter orange, chartreuse or lighter blues such as aqua blue.

Wearing a bold color like Marsala will definitely make a statement and a lasting impression therefore I prefer to invest in pieces that I can easily integrate with my wardrobe, such as armcandy, shoes, bags. Take a simple all black outfit and pop a marsala armparty, shoes, bag and lip, and you’ve just added bold color, effortlessly. For a more casual look, start with a marsala colored pair of pants paired with black shoes and grey top (wardrobe staples) complete with accessories and you’re good to go! Or if you really want to make a statement and go bold, try a dress or jacket, being a darker color, it tends to have slimming effects also which is an added plus. For trendier pieces that you may not wear as often, I like H&M or Forever21 because even thought the quality may not be the best, the style and affordability allows you to take chances that you wouldn’t necessarily take if the same piece cost triple the amount. And for those nervous about the durability of the color, especially in your wardrobe, start small. If the solid blocks of color turn you off, incorporate a printed scarf or blouse that includes the color, paint your nails or buy a top in the color and if you really love it, buy more;)

Over the years I have often been complimented on my style and received comments like... "where did you get that" only to be followed by a... "You got that where?!?...You paid how much?!?" And I would giggle to myself as I sit back and think that I've given the illusion of making a $10 top look like a $100 top. I have always loved shopping for clothes wether online or in store but one thing I learned from my grandmother is NEVER PAY FULL PRICE !! So maybe its in my blood, but I literally refuse to pay full retail price for pretty much anything. Whether it's on sale, or using a coupon there is always a way to save.
Growing up in an era where social media has created this craze around creating an image of living a luxurious lifestyle, we often get caught up in the superficial things. Being fashionable or trendy doesn't mean wearing a gucci or louis bag with monograms all over it, in fact its quite the opposite. I've realized that being stylish or trendy does not mean that you have to pay a lot of money on high end designer labels, just a little inspiration and guidance !! In this blog I'll be sharing my tips and ideas on how to shop, style and be fashionable on a frugal budget!! Enjoy :)
